Okinawa’s summer often feels hotter than many visitors expect. If you keep sightseeing for a long time, the heat may make you feel tired.
If you want a short cool-down without going to the beach, the Seseragi Area in Nago Castle Park is a good place to stop.
You can enjoy the cool water, rest under the trees, and sit in the pavilion.
The sound of the waterfall helps you slow down as well as cool down.
You do not need beach gear or special preparation.
This guide explains what I felt during my visit, how the water play works, and how to enjoy the area safely.

Who This Guide Is Good For
- Visiting Okinawa in summer
- Want to cool down without going to the beach
- Traveling with small children
- Want a short break between sightseeing
- Want to visit a place popular with local families
- Looking for a free spot to enjoy
Why This Place Is Nice
This is not a place for swimming or beach activities.
Instead, you can:
- Enjoy the cool water
- Take a break from the heat
- Stay under many trees
- Rest at the pavilion
- Experience a relaxed atmosphere used by local families
Because the water is not salty, your skin does not get sticky.
You can dry yourself with a towel and continue sightseeing or return to your hotel.
What I Felt During My Visit
The first thing that surprised me was how cold the water felt.
There is a lot of shade, so even in midsummer the temperature felt lower.
At the pavilion, I could hear the waterfall clearly.
I also saw small fish and water striders.
During my visit, I did not see any tourists—only local families enjoying the area.
Is the Water Clean?
The water looked clear enough to see the bottom.
The information sign says it is highly treated recycled water.
It is safe to touch, but not for drinking.
What Is the Water Play Like?
Water depth: Around 30 cm. Easy for small children to play.
Water temperature: Colder than I expected, even in summer.
Small creatures: I saw small fish and water striders.
Only feet in the water?
In my experience, it is not ideal for only dipping your feet. Depending on where you sit, your clothes may get dirty.
Having a change of clothes is helpful.
The Pavilion Is Actually the Best Spot
Surprisingly, my favorite place was not the water—it was the pavilion.
When you sit on the bench, the waterfall is right in front of you.
You can hear the water all the time.
The wind through the trees feels nice, and you can enjoy the area even without entering the water.
You can also watch the whole water area from the pavilion, so it is easy to rest while keeping an eye on your children.
In early summer (June–July), you may see sagaribana flowers if the timing is right.
Is It Good for Small Children?

- Water depth is around 30 cm
- Easy to watch children
- You can see the area from the pavilion
- Many shaded spots
However, some parts of the water area can be slippery.
A guardian should always stay close and hold hands while walking.
